Media in Education Newsletter - February issue

Some of the highlights of this February issue are an article about BaKaFORUM 2010 and the future of educational broadcasters, a feature on the MEDEA Special Jury Award Winner 2009: Eyes on the Skies from Germany, an introduction to our Czech contact point and information about various festivals related to the use of media aimed at the education and training sector.

SciCast is an online repository that shares videos, sent in by children and adults, related to Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM) and awards the best videos in the annual SciCast Film Awards.
Patient Safety - Mildred's Story is a film based on real life experiences that follows elderly patient Mildred from suffering a stroke, through a number of experiences in hospital to a final life-threatening incident. This fictional story is aimed primarily at student doctors to explore and discuss patient safety issues and to provide tools for dealing with problems.
Traditions Across Europe is a project within the eTwinning community, which is an EU programme that enables and encourages European schools to collaborate using ICT. Traditions Across Europe is based on an information exchange amongst 22 European schools about particular aspects, activities and traditions of the school's own country, a blog was set up by the schools to support this exchange.
Canal Educatif is a collaborative web platform that offers a series of free and innovative educational videos connected to the high school level curriculum. Targeted at teachers, students and families, it is intended for after-school work by students, for use during class time and to foster discussion between different generations.
Eyes on the Skies, by telling the history of the telescope in astronomy, aims to offer a compelling perspective on how human knowledge of space and our place in it has been completely revolutionised in the last 400 years. The Universe is a vast, complex, mind-boggling realm; showing science's step-wise visual foray into the final frontier will help make astronomy much more accessible and "real" to students of most ages.
